TWCR, Bangalore by Indian Story
Based on the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, the new Third Wave Coffee Roasters outlet in Bangalore is all about accepting the transience of beauty and the inevitability of imperfection.
WABI-SABI: Imperfect, impermanent; incomplete. This is the idea that this project is based on. The brand, Third Wave Coffee Roasters is well-known for its warm, cozy, neighbourhood social/ co-working space and ambience.
This was the first cafe outlet the client was set to open within a commercial complex. The brief from the client was to make the space follow the same language as the other cafes, without letting the high ceilings and the rigidity in the mall design and guidelines come in way of a beautiful personal experience of the place.
Designers at Indian Story thus chose to let the shell of the space be as it is, with all its imperfections. Instead, an effort was made to grab the users attention towards the warm setting by providing optimum comfort.
The layout is designed to divide the space into zones with different seating types, while still keeping it open and social. The colours, fabric, wood tones, signage and lighting is specifically put together to make the place inviting. Even the glazing is treated with curved wood frames.
The care taken in the detail of the large elements that rule the space, is the main reason the design of this café works beautifully, even when the structure remains untouched; complete in its incompletion.
